On October 20, the 11th Golden Hephaestus National Mining & Metallurgy Industry Competition, which is held annually as part of the Astana Mining & Metallurgy (AMM) Congress, will be held in Nur-Sultan, Hilton Hotel
Golden Hephaestus 2021 includes 14 nominations: Professional of the Year (three nominations), Project of the Year, Teacher Scientist of the Year, Graduate Work of the Year, Media Project of the Year (three nominations), Best Digital Solution in MMC, Best Foreign Partner and three brand new nominations: Industrial Safety Leader of the Year, Miner of the Year and Women in MMC. The new nomination “Women in Mining and Metallurgy” is especially expected as it will highlight the role of the fair sex in the mining and metallurgical industry not only in our country but all over the world. Today, a great number of top-level female professionals are employed at Mining and Metallurgical Company of Kazakhstan, and a huge scope of work, responsibility and issues related to further development of the industry fall on their fragile shoulders.
The Golden Hephaestus Contest is especially significant for the industry participants - it is the most prestigious award of national importance for MMC sector specialists. The first Golden Hephaestus statuette was presented to Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, thus setting a high level of professional and creative requirements for the projects of future contest participants. Today, over 350 mining companies and 270 metallurgical companies operate in the industry, employing more than 200,000 people. In 2019, 184 specialists in the field of geology, mining and metallurgy, employees of design, scientific, educational institutions and enterprises, as well as journalists writing about the mining and metallurgical industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan competed for the right to possess the Golden Hephaestus Award.
The Competent jury of the competition, which consists of reputable industry experts and government representatives, appreciates companies' achievements in the mining and metallurgy sector, thus raising the status and competitiveness of specialists and encouraging them to continuously grow and develop their professional skills.
Participation in the contest is free of charge in the electronic format, and the winners of some nominations receive a monetary reward. Students are given a chance to take an internship at large company, and their materials are published in international editions. Gathering of applications is already open and will last until October 10.
It is important to note that the prestige of this award grows every year. Over the past ten years, more than 120 specialists and organizations in the industry have received the award. And thanks to the World Mining Congress held in Kazakhstan in 2018, the Golden Hephaestus Award has gained worldwide recognition. This has become possible primarily thanks to the full support of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the permanent General Partner of the event - ERG (Eurasian Group).
