GOLDEN HEPHAESTUS 2026: RECOGNIZING PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, AND LEADERSHIP IN THE MINING AND METALLURGICAL COMPLEX

ON JUNE 11, 2026, THE 16TH NATIONAL MINING AND METALLURGICAL INDUSTRY COMPETITION “GOLDEN HEPHAESTUS” WILL TAKE PLACE IN ASTANA.

As the leading professional award of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical complex, it annually recognizes the most significant achievements of industry professionals, enterprises, and projects. Traditionally, the award ceremony will be held within the framework of the Astana Mining & Metallurgy 2026 Congress — the largest international industry platform in Central Asia, bringing together representatives of government bodies, business, academia, and the expert community.

For 16 years, Golden Hephaestus has remained a prestigious platform for recognizing the achievements of professionals, enterprises, and organizations that make a significant contribution to the development of the country’s mining and metallurgical complex. The award promotes best industry practices, enhances the prestige of mining and metallurgical professions, and advances new approaches to industry development.

The award traditionally receives support from Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), the General Partner of the project, which has for many years contributed to the development of human capital and the implementation of innovations in the mining and metallurgical complex.

The award gains particular significance in 2026, declared the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan. Therefore, among the key focuses of the competition are technological development, digital transformation of enterprises, and the implementation of innovative solutions in production.

This year, the award encompasses 15 nominations reflecting the key areas of industry development — from production achievements and workforce training to industrial safety, environmental protection, social initiatives, and media.

Metallurgist of the Year;

Underground Miner of the Year;

Beneficiation Specialist of the Year;

Women in Mining and Metallurgy;

Best Social Project;

Industrial Safety Leader of the Year;

Mentor of the Year;

Educator of the Year;

Thesis of the Year;

Best Digital Solution in the Mining and Metallurgical Complex (special nomination of the General Partner — ERG);

Best Project in Ecology and Water Resources;

Media Project of the Year. Best Journalistic Work on the Mining and Metallurgical Complex in Print Media;

Media Project of the Year. Best Journalistic Work on the Mining and Metallurgical Complex in Online Media.

In 2026, the organizers also updated several competition categories. The media nominations were adapted to modern information consumption formats: journalistic materials published in print media and online resources will now be evaluated separately. In addition, the nomination dedicated to the ESG agenda has been transformed into the category “Best Project in Ecology and Water Resources”, reflecting the growing importance of environmental issues and the rational use of natural resources for the sustainable development of the industry.

Over the years, Golden Hephaestus has become more than just an industry award; it has evolved into a recognized platform for professional excellence, honoring the best specialists, innovative projects, and initiatives that shape the future of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical complex.
