The Kazakhstan’s bid hold the 25th World Mining Congress in Astana in 2018 received support in Montreal

The 23rd World Mining Congress 2013 began in Montreal on August 10th this year. One of the points on its agenda was the application of the Republic of Kazakhstan hold the 25th World Mining congress in 2018 in Astana.

Speaking at the event, the Kazakhstani Ambassador in Canada Mr. Konstantin Zhigalov presented the bid and also gave information on topical issues of political and economic development of the RK, including the priorities of the State program of forced industrial innovative development in the RK and the role of the metallurgical complex with regards to this development.

Members Organizing Committee of the Congress unanimously voted in support of the Kazakhstan's request.

It was also decided that the next meeting of the Organizing Committee will take place in Astana as part of the Astana Mining and Metallurgy Conference on 12-13 June, 2014.

The decisions made in Montreal have confirmed the status of Astana as the central Eurasian stage for forums, conferences and other events of international significance. In recent years, the capital of Kazakhstan has repeatedly been focus of the attention of the world community. The capital regularly hosts congresses of world and traditional religious leaders, the Astana Economic Forum and other international significant events. The historic OSCE summit, the SCO Anniversary Summit and the OIS Ministerial meeting have all taken place in Astana. At the beginning of 2011, the capital of the Republic accommodated participants and guests of the VII Winter Asian Games. Now Astana is preparing to hold the international EXPO-2017 exhibition.
