Results of the "Golden Hephaestus 2014" National Industrial Competition
The solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the fifth National industrial competition "Golden Hephaestus" was held at the gala reception of the V International Congress Astana Mining & Metallurgy in Astana Music Hall in Astana on June 13, 2014. The organizers are the Ministry of the Industry and New Technologies of RK and Kazakhstan Exhibition Company Iteca. The general partner of the "Golden Hephaestus" Competition is the Company Eurasian Group.
Mining and metallurgical industry in Kazakhstan is one of the leading industries in technological development and investment attraction. Surely, the process of modernization at the domestic enterprises will be still continued for more than a year. However, according to the results of first five-year plan of National Program of forced industrial and innovative development of the Republic of Kazakhstan we can already speak on a breakthrough, starting up of new enterprises, creation of dozens of thousands of jobs.
Today, mining and metallurgical enterprises try to produce competitive high value added products, oriented for foreign market. The volume of output of ready-made metal products has increased from 95.9 billion tenge to 169.9 billion tenge from 2010 to 2013. Export of metallurgic products has increased from 8.9 billion dollars to 13.5 billion dollars. The production of 106 products, which were not previously produced in Kazakhstan, has been organized in the industry, namely marine steel constructions, turbine racks, composite metal pipes, cables, sanitary ware metal products, different types of fittings and others. Contribution of projects of mining and metallurgical companies into the manufacturing industry constituted 7.5%, in industry GVA - 2.6%, and the country's GDP - 0.9%.
The purpose of "Golden Hephaestus" competition is recognition of achievements of enterprises and professionals in the field of mining, geology and metallurgy for demonstration and a wide distribution of positive experience, existing in this field. The competition united geologists, metalworkers, miners, innovators, scientists, educators, students and journalists for the fifth time.
The organizers express their appreciation to all nominees of the "Golden Hephaestus 2014" Competition. This year, 77 nominees participated for the right to receive the "Golden Hephaestus" award.
At the solemn ceremony, 12 winners received awards in the presence of the administration the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of RK, foreign guests and enterprises managers. 10 representatives of domestic mining and metallurgical enterprises were honoured title of "Kenshi danky" and "Enbek danky" and received award pins. Five categories provided for monetary awards.

Detailed information about the winners of the "Golden Hephaestus 2014" National Industrial Competition
Geologist of the year - Aleksandr Pavlovich Kuksov. Aleksandr Pavlovich directly participated in concluding contracts for the subsurface use and iron-ore production in Sokolovskoye, Sarbayskoye, Kacharskoye, Kurzhunkulskoye, Sorskoye and Shagyrkulskoye deposits, the development of Alekseevskoye dolomite deposits and Kzyl-Zharskoye limestone deposit, mining of rag stone in Sokolovskoye deposit and bentonite clays at Sarbayskoye deposit.
Metallurgist of the year - Turarbek Anarbekovich Azekenov. Turarbek Anarbekovich directly participated in the implementation of the project "New Metallurgy", which is the part of the National Program of forced industrial and innovative development and particularly noted by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbaev.
Miner of the year - Amankeldy Tanirbergenovich Suyuntayev. Under the leadership of Amankeldy Tanirbergenovich the development program and orifice of a mine on production of pit reserves up to rated capacity of 500 (five hundred) thousands of tons of ore a year is currently being successfully implemented in Molodezhnaya Mine of Donskoy Ore-Dressing and Processing Enterprise by introduction of energy-efficient and resource-efficient technologies, enhance of productivity and providing the industrial and environmental safety of production.
Project of the year - Evraz Caspian Steel LLC. Evraz Caspian Steel is a joint enterprise of Caspian Group and Evraz Company, fitted with advanced equipment, able to produce up to 500 thousand tons of products per year. The plant was put into operation in late 2013. Now the production of first industrial batch of steel fittings is planned.
Leader of the year for innovation - KSP Steel LLP. Leader of the year for innovation is the project on creation of shop for aluminium ferrosilicon smelting at the enterprise KSP Steel LLP. The innovative aluminium ferrosilicon alloy was open by domestic scientists; its use reduces the cost of ton of smelting steel, depending on its brand and primary ore raw materials.
Leader of the year for Kazakhsatn content - Kazzinc LLP. During the period from 2013 till 1 quarter 2014 the Company Kazzinc has participated in more than 35 discussions and round tables with potential suppliers of goods, works, and services, including with the representatives of the small and medium-sized business of one-factory towns Ridder and Zyryanovsk. The company has concluded 38 memorandums on mutual cooperation for total amount of more than 77 billion tenge. According to the results of 2013, Kazzinc LLP has spent 241.8 million tenge for training of local staff.
Best solution in energy conservation - Aksu Ferroalloy Plant, branch of TNC Kazchrome JSC. Ferroalloy gas is a by-product, which is formed during ferroalloys manufacturing. Its use gives a significant economic effect on all heat supply objects of Aksu ferroalloys plant, aiming to maximum non-waste production and effective waste management.
Scientist-teacher of the year in mining and metallurgy - Lyazzat Saevna Shamganova, Institute of Mining Affairs named after D.A.Kunaev. Scientist-teacher of the year - Lyazzat Saevna Shamganova is a member of the Executive Board of the "Union of mine surveyors of Kazakhstan", a member of editorial board of the magazine "Mine Surveying and Geodesy". Now, Lyazzat Saevna is a scientific leader of a number of research projects, implemented for the safe and effective development of such deposits, as Vasilkovskoye, Suzdalskoye, chromite ores of Donskoy Ore-Dressing and Processing Enterprise, Zhezkazganskye, Zhomart and Zhytigarinskoye asbestos deposits.
Graduation work of the year in mining and metallurgy - Yana Volkova, Rudnensk Industrial Institute. Yana Volkova, a graduate of 2014 of Rudnensk Industrial Institute of Mining and Metallurgical faculty, has successfully defended a graduate thesis work on the topic: "The engineering of mine surveying works during long-term planning of mining operations at Orenburg Minerals JSC".
Best journalistic work on mining and metallurgical industry in print and internet resources - Sergei Gakhov, Business magazine Kazakhstan. Sergei Gakhov started his professional journalistic activity in 2000. In the opinion of the members of the jury, his articles are distinguished by competence, thorough understanding of topics, reference to issues, having high public value. The best material of the year on the mining and metallurgical complex among others presented for the competition became Sergey's article "Consume not possible to renew".
Best journalistic work on mining and metallurgical industry on TV - Margarita Yuryevna Chudakova, television and radio broadcasting company Kazakhstan - Pavlodar. Margarita Yuryevna Chudakova has presented in her competitive application a 15-minute TV program "Map of Industrialization" about Kazakhstan electrolytic plant. Margarita is an internship at television and radio broadcasting company Kazakhstan - Pavlodar. She has been publishing articles in the Pavlodar regional social and political newspaper Nasha Zhizn for 3 years.
Best journalistic work about worker in Mining and Metallurgical Industry - Viktor Minin, Newspaper Metallurg. Viktor Minin received the award for the article "It is the family business - to mine coal" about the well-known mining dynasty of the Yeremins. Viktor Minin is also an editor and one of the authors of encyclopaedia "Karaganda. Karaganda region"; the regional Memory Book sacred to those who died in the Great Patriotic War and the region's Memory Book sacred to those who died in the war in Afghanistan.
